Laser characterization

Laser characterization

The precise Characterization of laser sources is crucial for research, development, quality assurance, and demanding optical applications. In addition to wavelength and output power, particularly laser linewidth, frequency and phase noise, intensity noise, and frequency stability an important role in evaluating the spectral properties of a laser.

Soliton offers specialized measurement systems for high-resolution analysis of modern CW and narrow-band laser sources. This makes it possible to reliably detect even very small spectral fluctuations and noise components and to analyze lasers with regard to their stability and coherence properties.

Precise analysis of laser noise

For highly coherent lasers, the mere measurement of the optical spectrum is often not sufficient. Specialized analyzers enable a much more detailed investigation of Linewidth, phase and frequency noise, and Relative Intensity Noise (RIN).

This allows laser sources not only to be evaluated in terms of their nominal specifications, but also makes even the smallest instabilities and noise components visible, which are relevant, for example, in interferometric measurements, quantum technologies, or high-resolution spectroscopy.

Typical applications

Laser characterization measurement systems are used, among other things, in:

  • Development and Characterization of Laser Sources
  • Optical Metrology and Precision Measurement Technology
  • High-resolution spectroscopy
  • Quantum optics and quantum technology
  • interferometric sensor technology
  • LIDAR and coherent measurement methods
  • Optical communication
  • Research and Quality Assurance

Measurement systems for demanding laser sources

Depending on the application, different properties of a laser source may be of primary importance. While for extremely narrow-band lasers, in particular Linewidth, phase noise and frequency stability are crucial, plays a role in other applications Relative Intensity Noise a central role.

With specialized measurement systems, these parameters can be determined precisely and reproducibly. Soliton assists you in selecting the appropriate measurement technology for your laser source and the relevant measurement parameters.
