Compact beam delivery for 2D+ MOT systems

Infleqtion's Picas is a compact, pre-aligned optical beam delivery system for generating the required laser beam geometry for a 2D+ magneto-optical trap (MOT). The system significantly reduces the effort required for optomechanical setup and alignment and enables the realization of robust cold atom sources.

In combination with the CASC – Cold Atom Source Cell from Infleqtion, atom fluxes of more than 10⁹ cold atoms per second are generated. This makes Picas suitable as a compact atom source for downstream cold and ultracold atom experiments.

Three fiber-coupled laser inputs

Picas generates the beam configuration required for a 2D+ MOT three user-provided fiber-coupled laser inputs.

Use the optical inputs FC/APC connectors. Depending on the version, the system is for Rubidium at 780 nm or Cesium at 852 nm designed. Due to the pre-configured optics, a large part of the manual alignment of individual free-space components that would otherwise be required is eliminated.

Fixed Picas

The Fixed Picas offers a compact and largely adjustment-free optical solution with pre-defined polarization. It can be used directly with the CASC and the 2D+ MOT Magnet Assembly be combined.

Optionally, integrated photodiodes are available for monitoring the power of all three laser beams. These enable continuous power control and can be used for automated process and system monitoring.

Adjustable Spacing

The Adjustable Spacing offers additional adjustment options and integrates two sets of coils for the rapid, switchable generation of the required magnetic field.

Here too, the three laser beams can be monitored via photodiodes. The combination of compact optomechanics, integrated heat dissipation, and adjustable configuration is particularly suited for systems where greater experimental flexibility is required.

Combination with CASC

Along with the CASC – Cold Atom Source Cell a compact 2D+ MOT atom source is created. The CASC provides the vacuum system and the alkali atom source, while Picas generates the required laser beam geometry.

For Fixed Picas, the 2D+ MOT Magnet Assembly available. This generates the required quadrupole magnetic field and enables precise alignment of the 2D+ MOT relative to the output aperture of the CASC.

Typical applications

  • 2D+ magneto-optical traps
  • High-flux sources of cold atoms
  • Supply of 3D MOT systems
  • Bose-Einstein condensation
  • atom interferometry
  • Quantum sensing
  • Neutral atom quantum technology
  • compact and transportable cold-atom systems

Infleqtion's Picas

Picas reduces the optical setup of a 2D+ MOT to a compact, pre-configured module. In combination with CASC and the matching magnetic components from Infleqtion, this enables the realization of a high-performance cold atom source with significantly reduced alignment and integration effort.

Soliton assists you in configuring Picas and CASC, as well as in selecting suitable laser, magnetic, vacuum, and cold-atom components for your experimental setup.
