MSV700 – Processing of Sensitive Materials under Controlled Atmosphere

The MSV700 by msolv is a specialized process platform for the Deposition, patterning and functionalization of moisture- and oxygen-sensitive materials. Laser and inkjet processes can within a temperature-controlled inert atmosphere be carried out so that sensitive materials remain protected from unwanted environmental influences during processing.

This makes the system particularly suitable for research and development tasks perovskites and other sensitive thin-film systems, where even small amounts of oxygen or moisture can affect material properties and process results. Msolv explicitly positions the MSV700 as a platform for scaling such materials from a single device towards a module.

Laser and inkjet processes in one platform

The MSV700 supports both advanced laser processes as well as inkjet-based material deposition. This enables additive and subtractive processing steps to be implemented within a controlled process environment.

The platform is therefore suitable for the development of complex process chains in which sensitive functional layers must first be applied and then specifically structured or further processed.

Precise laser scribing for perovskite photovoltaics

An important area of application is the development and scaling of modern Perovskite solar cells and modules. For their electrical interconnection, extremely thin functional layers must be selectively patterned without unnecessarily damaging adjacent or underlying layers.

For this purpose, the MSV700 can be equipped with high-repetition-rate DPSS lasers featuring picosecond or femtosecond pulses can be used. Short pulses and customized beam profiles enable controlled material ablation and reduce thermal stress as well as the risk of delamination and unwanted burr formation at the scribe edges.

From material testing to module scaling

Especially with new photovoltaic materials, one challenge is to transfer a process developed in the laboratory to larger cell and module formats. Msolv therefore sees the MSV700 as a connecting link in the Scaling sensitive materials like perovskites from single cell towards module.

The controlled atmosphere thus enables the development and optimization of process steps without the sensitive material having to be unnecessarily exposed to oxygen or humidity between the individual processing steps.
