HGL Series – Broadband Capsule Hydrophones for Precise Ultrasonic Measurements

The Onda HGL Series includes compact, broadband hydrophones for the precise characterization of ultrasonic fields. Due to their high sensitivity and small effective aperture, they are particularly suitable for measurements that require a combination of good spatial resolution and a wide frequency range.

The hydrophones can be used for both scientific and industrial ultrasonic measurements as well as a component of automated field measurement and scanning systems.

Broadband measurement up to over 20 MHz

The HGL hydrophones possess a broadband frequency characteristic with a typical frequency range of approximately 250 kHz to over 20 MHz at ±3 dB. In combination with suitable Onda preamplifiers, signals can be reliably acquired even at higher frequencies.

The wide bandwidth enables the investigation of a wide variety of ultrasound sources and short broadband ultrasound pulses.

Three aperture sizes for different measurement tasks

The HGL series is available with different effective apertures. Depending on the model, available are 85 µm, 200 µm, and 400 µm available.

Small apertures enable a particularly high spatial resolution and are suitable, for example, for measuring strongly focused ultrasound fields. Larger apertures, on the other hand, offer higher sensitivity and are of interest for applications where very low signal levels must be reliably detected.

This allows the hydrophone to be specifically adapted to the requirements of the respective measurement task.

High sensitivity and compact design

The HGL series combines a small active measuring surface with high sensitivity. The compact capsule design facilitates integration into measurement setups and automated ultrasonic measurement systems.

Thanks to their robust construction, the hydrophones are suitable for research and development tasks as well as for recurring measurements in quality assurance and testing technology.

Calibrated ultrasonic measurement

Onda offers the HGL hydrophones with traceable calibration This makes frequency-dependent sensitivity data available, which enables a quantitative determination of the acoustic sound pressure.

In connection with the matching AH and AG preamplifiers from Onda a coordinated measurement system is created for the precise characterization of ultrasonic fields.
