The PeCOD® COD Analyzers from MANTECH enable the determination of chemical oxygen demand (COD) within less than 10 minutes – entirely without the use of dichromate or mercury. The patented photoelectrochemical measurement technology delivers fast, accurate, and reproducible results for wastewater, drinking water, and process water analyses.
Unlike classical dichromate methods, the time-consuming sample digestion reaction is eliminated. This significantly reduces analysis time, operating costs, and the handling of hazardous chemicals.
The PeCOD® technology is based on a patented photoelectrochemical measurement principle. The heart of the system is a TiO₂ nanoparticle sensor, which is activated by UV light. Organic compounds are oxidized on the sensor surface, and the resulting electrical current serves as a direct measure of the chemical oxygen demand of the sample.
Unlike the traditional dichromate method, this method requires neither hazardous oxidizing agents nor a sample digestion reaction lasting several hours. As a result, measurement results are available within just a few minutes, enabling rapid process monitoring and immediate responses to changes.
The complete oxidation of organic matter ensures high measurement accuracy over a wide concentration range. Studies also show a very good correlation of PeCOD® results with both the classical CODCr method and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD₅), allowing PeCOD® to be used as a rapid screening tool.
Available Systems
The PeCOD® product family is available in several versions:
PeCOD® L50 Laboratory Model
Compact benchtop device for laboratories in industry, government, and research. The system offers a small footprint, simple operation, and expansion options for automated sample feeding and additional measurement parameters.
PeCOD® L50 Portable
Portable COD analysis system for field use. Thanks to its battery-powered operation and carrying case, COD measurements can be performed directly on site—without having to transport hazardous reagents.
PeCOD® Online L50
Online system for continuous process monitoring. The device can be connected directly to process lines and automatically handles filtration, purification, calibration, and analysis. Integration into SCADA systems enables permanent real-time monitoring of COD values.
Automated Systems
For high-throughput laboratories, MANTECH offers automated PeCOD® systems with autosamplers for unattended operation.
