AH Series – Preamplifiers and accessories for Onda hydrophones

The Onda AH-Series includes low-noise preamplifiers and accessories for reliable signal conditioning in precise hydrophone measurements. The preamplifiers are electronically and mechanically matched to Onda hydrophones, combining a wide frequency range with low self-noise and high stability.

With various amplifier configurations as well as attenuators, adapters, cables, and brackets, the measurement chain can be specifically adapted to the respective ultrasonic application.

Broadband signal conditioning up to 100 MHz

The preamplifiers AH-2010 and AH-2020 offer a frequency range of 50 kHz to 100 MHz and are therefore suitable for broadband ultrasonic measurements.

A flat frequency response and low self-noise enable reliable transmission of the signals generated by the hydrophone. The output impedance is 50 Ω, allowing direct connection to typical oscilloscopes and measuring instruments.

AH-2010 and AH-2020

The AH-2010 operates with a fixed voltage gain of 20 dB and offers a simple solution for measurement tasks with constant signal amplification requirements.

The AH-2020 expands this concept with a switchable gain of 0 or 20 dB. Switching can be done manually or via a TTL signal. This allows the preamplifier to be flexibly adapted to different signal levels within a measurement setup.

Submersible design for compact measurement setups

The AH preamplifiers are fully submersible and can be connected to the hydrophone directly inside the water tank. As a result, the first amplifier stage is located close to the sensor, and only a coaxial cable needs to be routed out of the tank to the measuring device.

The waterproof connection to Onda hydrophones enables compact and low-noise measurement setups, particularly in automated hydrophone scanning systems.

Accessories for the complete hydrophone measurement chain

In addition to the preamplifiers, Onda offers comprehensive accessories for configuring the measurement chain. These include, among others Attenuators, adapters, coaxial cables, and hydrophone mounts.

The ATH-2000 Attenuator can be used, for example, to extend the usable dynamic range of the measurement chain and prevent overloading of the preamplifier at high signal levels.

calibrated measuring chain

The preamplifiers can be calibrated together with the hydrophone used. This is particularly relevant for high-frequency measurements: Onda points out that above 20 MHz a calibration of the hydrophone together with the preamplifier actually used is required, since cable and impedance effects are having an increasing influence on the measurement.

This allows the entire signal chain comprising the hydrophone, preamplifier, and cabling to be specifically configured for quantitative ultrasonic measurements.
