Quantum cascade laser LaserTune LT1000 – Tunable mid-IR laser source for precise spectroscopy

Versatile quantum cascade lasers for demanding applications

The Quantum cascade laser LaserTune LT1000 from Block Engineering, distributed by Soliton GmbH, is a powerful, tunable mid-infrared (Mid-IR) laser source specifically designed for demanding spectroscopic applications. Covering the spectral range from 5.3 to 13 µm, the laser offers a wide range of analysis options. Depending on the model selected, users can choose between tuning ranges of 250, 500, 750, or 1000 cm⁻¹, allowing them to specifically address a wide variety of molecular vibrational modes. Despite its high spectral power density and an average output power of up to 20 mW, the system remains eye-safe, making it suitable for use in safety-critical environments.

Technical features of the quantum cascade laser

The Quantum cascade laser LaserTune LT1000 impresses with its technical versatility: It covers wavelengths from 5.4 to 12.8 µm, generates peak power of up to 500 mW, and achieves a repetition rate of up to 3 MHz. With a linewidth of just 2 cm⁻¹ and pulse durations between 30 and 300 ns, the laser meets the highest requirements for spectral resolution and temporal control. The system is controlled either via PC software via USB or directly via an integrated touchscreen interface. Another highlight is the modular design with up to four tuners (LT4000), which together cover the full tuning range and are combined into a single beam. Configurations with two or three tuners are also available, allowing flexible adaptation to individual applications.

Applications of the LaserTune quantum cascade laser

The possible applications of the Quantum cascade laser are diverse. In the field of mid-IR spectroscopy, it allows the precise analysis of chemical substances based on their characteristic absorption patterns. Furthermore, the laser is ideal for photothermal imaging, which visualizes the smallest temperature changes at the molecular level. In gas sensing, the laser enables the selective detection of specific gases in low concentrations – a crucial feature for environmental monitoring, process control, or security applications.

Expansion possibilities and options

The Quantum cascade laser LaserTune LT1000 can be adapted to specific requirements through numerous options. An optionally integrated MCT detector allows the construction of a complete IR spectrometer for measurements in reflection or transmission. For special applications, a software development kit (SDK) is also available, enabling customized programming and integration into existing systems. A built-in pointing laser is used for optical alignment of the system, and individual tuner modules are also available as OEM components. This modularity allows the quantum cascade laser to be optimally integrated into both scientific and industrial processes.
