AIMS III – Automated Mapping of Ultrasound Fields

The AIMS III (Acoustic Intensity Measurement System) by Onda is a high-precision automated scanning system for the spatial characterization of acoustic fields in liquids. It combines a stable water tank, precise positioning technology, Onda hydrophones, and the powerful Soniq Software to a complete measuring system.

The AIMS III is suitable for both research and development and routine measurements in quality assurance and production. Complex ultrasonic fields can be automatically recorded, visualized, analyzed, and documented.

Precise positioning in three or five axes

The positioning system enables high-resolution scans along the X-, Y-, and Z-axis and achieves a repeatability of under 5 µm. This also allows small structures within focused ultrasound fields to be measured reproducibly.

In addition to the standard 3-axis configuration, the AIMS III is available as 5-axis system with two additional rotational axes available. This allows for the realization of more complex measurement geometries as well as different orientations of the hydrophone and ultrasonic transducer.

Automated measurement of acoustic fields

With the AIMS III, ultrasonic fields can be automatically measured in one-, two- or three-dimensional scans are recorded. The measurement data can then be displayed as spatial field distributions and analyzed quantitatively.

Features like SmartSCAN optimize the scanning process and can reduce the time required for extensive field measurements. Automated positioning also enables reproducible measurement conditions, even for complex scanning tasks.

Soniq software for analysis and reporting

The Soniq Software forms the central platform for control, data acquisition, visualization, and evaluation of the AIMS III. Acoustic fields can be displayed in real time during the measurement and subsequently analyzed in detail.

More than 100 calculated measurement parameters, including, among others PRMS, PII, ISPTA, TI, and MI, enable a comprehensive characterization of ultrasonic fields. Automatic analysis and reporting functions also support measurements and documentation according to established IEC and FDA requirements.

Complete system for hydrophone measurements

The AIMS III is designed as a complete measurement system and can be combined with various Onda hydrophones, preamplifiers, water treatment systems, and ultrasonic test sources combine.

Different tank sizes allow adaptation to various transducers and measurement tasks. At the same time, the transparent water tank facilitates the observation and setup of the measurement arrangement.

Automation and Integration

For automated testing processes and customer-specific measurement systems, the AIMS III offers options for external control. Measurement recipes, data acquisition, and evaluation can be integrated into higher-level processes via corresponding interfaces.

Automatic compensations for Temperature and hydrophone calibration support reproducible measurement results and reduce manual effort during extensive measurement series.
