Unlike conventional point-measurement methods, tomography provides information about the <strong data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"1952\">spatial distribution of substances and phases across the entire measurement cross-section<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1955\" data-end=\"2237\">This allows complex processes such as mixing operations, multiphase flows, separations, or level and interface profiles to be investigated in real time. The measurement data obtained provide direct insight into processes that are normally not visible from the outside.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2239\" data-end=\"2477\">ITS has been developing electrical tomography systems for industrial applications and research for over 25 years. The systems can be adapted to different process geometries and measurement tasks.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1t4rpgl\" data-start=\"2479\" data-end=\"2521\">Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT)<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2523\" data-end=\"2702\">The <strong data-start=\"2527\" data-end=\"2569\">Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT)<\/strong> \u2013 electrical resistance tomography \u2013 is particularly suitable for processes with an electrically conductive continuous phase.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2704\" data-end=\"2965\">Multiple electrodes capture electrical measurements around the process cross-section. The sensors can be arranged outside the process wall, which also makes ECT attractive for applications where no direct contact between the electrodes and the process medium is desired or possible.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4094\" data-end=\"4394\">ERT and ECT complement each other very well in this way: Depending on the electrical properties of the materials involved, the respective suitable measuring principle can be chosen. For demanding applications, there are also <strong data-start=\"4306\" data-end=\"4347\">Dual-modality systems of ERT and ECT<\/strong> possible.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"9lzdrf\" data-start=\"4396\" data-end=\"4428\">From measurement signal to tomogram<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4430\" data-end=\"4643\">The electrical measured values recorded by the sensors are processed by the data acquisition system and converted into a using mathematical reconstruction methods <strong data-start=\"4588\" data-end=\"4630\">two- or three-dimensional tomogram<\/strong> converted.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4645\" data-end=\"4904\">This creates a spatial representation of the conductivity or permittivity distribution within the process.
